Our STyle
Our goal at 8 Kinds of Smiles is to create wedding films driven by powerful storytelling, captivating audio, and genuine moments. We aim to capture your day in a more documentary and candid manner. While we do offer some direction here and there, for the most part, we want our couples to really just enjoy their day and interact with their loved ones and more importantly, each other, as they naturally would. It's these real moments that capture so beautifully on camera that defines our style. Our wedding films aspire to be more than just what's trending momentarily but to be true, lasting, timeless memories.
Hi there.
I'm Travis, the creative behind 8 Kinds of Smiles.
I've always had a passion for visual arts, but weddings were certainly never where I saw myself working growing up. That was until I saw a wedding film shot on some of the early DSLRs that shot video around 2008. It was cinematic and captivating, but what truly made it special was the storytelling. It wasn't simply a wedding video like the ones we saw from our parents growing up, it was an art piece. I was hooked, and I saw then the potential for where wedding videography could go. That sense of artful narrative storytelling is something I try to carry through in our work everyday.
8 Kinds of Smiles began when I shot my first wedding on a whim in the summer of 2010. That turned into a few more that year. Those lead to a dozen or so more the following year, and so the brand grew. We've been able to work with and alongside some pretty amazing couples and friendors over the years, and it was their belief in our work that has really enabled 8 Kinds of Smiles to grow and thrive. I'm very fortunate to be able to do this and tell love stories for a living.
Without a doubt, weddings have become a truly important part of my adult life. I even met my now wife, Anna, during one of those weddings, who, on occasion, shoots with me. Alongside the rest of our team including my other lead shooter, Sean, and 2nd shooters, John and Mai, we hope to be able to tell your love story in the future. And I hope that my story here helps to give you a glimpse into my passion behind 8 Kinds of Smiles.
Where the Name Came From
The name 8 Kinds of Smiles refers to the varying types of smiles one discovers about their significant other over the course of their relationship. It is a reference to the personal nature of such a connection whereby typically only one’s significant other is aware of all these different types of smiles. It is something unique and intimate with each couple and individual.
8 Kinds of Smiles aims to get these different types of smiles to shine through in our work.
